Disability Parking Etiquette
For those
who walk, if there is a non-disabled spot that is close enough for
you to use safely, use it instead, and
preserve
the wide spots for others in need.
Do not park
on any portion of the cross-hatched area next to a disabled spot.
Preserve the width of the spot as much
as possible.
Please don't
be rude to people who use these parking spots improperly. There
is a great deal of misunderstanding.
Try
to patiently explain the laws and etiquette you've learned here.
If they're rude or resistant, nothing you can say would
make a difference to them anyway!
Disability Parking Law
The parking
permit is assigned to the disabled person, not the vehicle.
Someone driving the
disabled person may not drop their passenger off, and then park
the car in a blue zone. That
is
an illegal use.
The vehicle
may be parked in the disabled zone only when the disabled person
will actually leave the car.
Disabled parking
zones may not be used as waiting zones, even with a proper permit.
It is a violation
to park in the cross-hatched area next to a blue parking zone.
